We met…

At Electric Picnic! In a field of 40,000 people. Two strangers from neighbouring towns, we met & hit it off immediately. We went our separate ways during the day but after a few flying messages back and forth we partied into the small hours together. Diarmuid had noticed me in a pub in the village that day, it must’ve been fate that we happened to meet again at the festival later that day!

Our proposal…

We were booked to go on a Caribbean Cruise the week after we got engaged. We were on the receiving end of the usual remarks from friends that we’d come back from the Caribbean Cruise engaged. Diarmuid would never be so predictable! On the Sunday night on our third anniversary on a rainy night at the Electric Picnic Diarmuid took me over to a quiet area and start taking off his jacket and jumper ( in the rain ! ) he got down on one knee and had a t-shirt made with ‘ Will you Marry Me ‘ on him. I was so surprised and shocked that I forgot to answer him and he had to ask again! It was a perfect moment, definitely not expected or predictable, we celebrated in the champagne tent at the picnic and will continue our Electric Picnic tradition every year to celebrate!

Our wedding theme/colours…

The Theme for the wedding was of course a festival theme! What else! Our invitations were designed by Niall O’Loughlin of us in caricatures at Electric Picnic, our table plan and table names also reflected this. Kelly Lou Cakes brought her cupcake van to our guests outside the church for cupcakes and hot chocolate and we had Andy James magician to entertain our guests at the drinks reception. We love the colour Grey and went for just that in our Bridesmaid dresses and suits for the groom and groomsmen.

My wedding dress…

Since I was a young girl my mother always bought the ‘Hello’ Magazine which always featured the most beautiful Pronovias wedding dresses. I always knew that was the designer I wanted to wear. The first time I have seen my dress it was love at first sight. My bridesmaid sent me a picture of this beautiful Pronovias dress and I knew it was the one. I phoned every shop in Ireland and Northern Ireland looking for the dress and nowhere that stocked Pronovias had it. Every dress I tried on I compared to the one I seen online . When the new season Pronovias range came out tried calling the White Rooms in Mullingar (again) and spoke to Shauna, she remembered that I had enquired before and went to the ends of the earth to try and source the dress for me. She eventually got the dress flown in from Barcelona for me to try on and It was love ! I loved the sleeve detail and the big train, when she fitted the cathedral length veil on me I had ‘the moment . Lace won’t ever date and I know I will always love it when I look back at my pictures. I also loved that no one else in Ireland had my dress. I couldn’t thank the White Rooms in Mullingar enough for all they did to get me the dress.

My hair and makeup…

My hair was done by the beautiful Jane in Bankz Hair & Beauty Portlaoise . She has been doing my hair since I was a teenager and has a reputation for her upstyles. Joanne Peeden did my makeup , she had done my maid of honours makeup for her wedding day for which I was bridesmaid and she was incredible. I was so happy with my hair and makeup on the day , not one touch up had to be done!

His suit…

was bought from Galvin’s in Tullamore. John looked after us like he does every customer, like royalty, time is never an issue and he will spend as much time as you need to get everything perfect. In the end we choose a light grey for the Groom and darker grey Remus Uomo suits for the groomsmen. Diarmuid’s late father always bought from John in Galvin’s so when it came to Diarmuid’s big day there was no question about where he would go, their service is in a league of its own.

What our bridal party wore…

TH&TH Bridesmaids, a London company who I dealt with through instagram! I searched high up and low down for a grey bridesmaid dress with a sleeve option for my sister. Every woman is a different shape and size and I wanted to make sure the girls were comfortable in their dresses. I had the dresses custom made for the girls, one with a low ‘V’ back and high neck with short sleeves and the other with a normal back and ‘V’ front with long sleeves. The company sent me over lots of samples from the UK. We got lots of compliments on their dresses and the ladies felt fabulous on the day .

Our ceremony…

was so special. One of my best friends is a singer in ‘ The Vows’ wedding band, better known to me as Damien Bowe, to have your friend sing you up the aisle is such a special moment, it was beautiful. Mountmellick Church is so beautiful , we had 210 guests and it filled the church beautifully. Josephines Flowers was out chosen florist to decorate the church for us, one of my favorite moments of the day was pulling up to the church and seeing the beautiful flower arch she had created outside the doors of the church , it was magnificent!

We chose our photographer because…

he’s amazing at his job! We came across Daniels photo’s on weddingsonline.ie and emailed him. He got back to me within half an hour and I arranged an appointment, I didn;t look at any other photographers after my visit, his work speaks for itself. We loved the intimate shots he took of couples and the detail of other couples wedding day that he captured. His picture were just amazing . We just received our wedding pictures from him last night which came with a slideshow of images, I cried they were so beautiful !

We chose our wedding coordinator because…

I had worked as a wedding coordinator in the Heritage Hotel for almost ten years and knew that I wanted someone that cared as much about our wedding as we did. We found just that in the Keadeen Hotel. Sharon there was fantastic, she was so passionate about her work and I knew our wedding would be in safe hands. Nothing was ever too much trouble. My tip is find someone who cares as much about your wedding as you do and the wedding will look after itself then on the day .

We chose our venue because…

I always wanted to get married in the Keadeen. It’s a family run hotel with beautiful gardens and wonderful people. One of the most important things about the day was the food, it’s the thing that people talk about the most after a wedding and they did just that after our big day! Some of our guests went back to the hotel the next day to have the carrots and parsnips and red cabbage that came with dinner!

Our menu…

We chose a Warm Chicken Salad for starter to have something light. Five courses is a lot to get through! We followed this with Butternut Squash and Carrot soup, Beef or Salmon for main course and Warm Winter Berry Crumble and IceCream for Dessert.

Our honeymoon…

We went to the Acqua Suites in Lanzarote after the wedding and will spend a week in Sorrento in the New Year. We didn’t want a long haul flight after the wedding and we were so glad we did it this way . Don’t forget you will be exhausted the week after the wedding , all we did in Lanzarote was Eat, Sleep and Drink, we were so exhausted not only from the wedding day but from the running around the week before the wedding . Now we still have something to look forward to in the New Year.

My favourite part of the wedding day…

The Ceremony. It was incredible to walk up the aisle surrounded by all of our family and friends there to share the day with us and to have your husband to be waiting at the top of the aisle. The feeling is incredible, every emotion sweeps over you. A wedding is something every girl dreams about and when the day finally arrives and you are saying your vows to  the love of your life at the top of the altar to commit to one another for the rest of your lives, it was the best part of the day.

My piece of advice for other brides… The morning of the wedding will be the quickest part of the day. I can’t stress enough that you get one of your bridesmaids to keep an eye on the time , you will be so caught up in everything that is going on that you won’t have any concept of time and the morning will slip away from you.

Get yourself a wedding planner or a diary and anytime something comes into your head that has to be done write it down! This was stop you from tossing and turning at night time waking up thinking of things to be done.
