Borris House and Step House Hotel Wedding
Borris House Wedding Venue & Step House Hotel Co. Carlow
We met..
2007 Dave is from Waterford and I had moved down to college. We met through mutual friends.
Our proposal…
We were heading on a holiday with some friends it was a road trip from San Diego to Las Vegas. Dave had planned on proposing on this trip but as it got closer he realised the risk of bringing the ring through the security in the airport and also managing to get time on our own might be very difficult. In the end he proposed a couple of days before the holiday on a fab summers evening in the front garden with some champagne and sushi. I am obsessed with Tiffany & Co and Dave managed to surprise me with a vintage
Tiffany & Co ring – it was perfect!
Our wedding theme/colours...
We had no theme we just choose items we liked. We did not get lost in the idea that there had to be a theme and colour scheme. If we like something we choose it and in the end, it all came together perfectly.
My dress...
Was from
http://lilacrose.ie/ I have to say from the moment i walked in the door the customer service in this shop was amazing. I wanted a very plain and simple dress and I ended up going with a Charlie Brear slip dress with a lace detail skirt over it.
My hair and make up…
Makeup was by the fabulous Kali Beauty in Castledermot and Hair from the equally talented Tracey Lawler Hairdressing in Carlow. I had so much fun with both girls on the morning of the wedding They did an amazing job with my bridesmaids and me.
His suit…
Dave went for a navy suit from Louis Copeland. He was working in Dublin at the time near Dundrum Shopping Centre. Himself and a colleague went in on their lunch break to get some food. He happened to see the suit in the window went in right then to try it on and then rang me after to say he had bought his wedding suit. If everything in life was so simple. It was a fab suit!
What our bridal party wore…
Because my wedding dress was so simple I wanted the girls bridesmaids to dress to be simple also. I had an idea in my head that I wanted it to be a tea-length dress, I saw a fab mint tea-length dress on
https://www.chichiclothing.com/ and
ordered them all online and luckily all the girls loved them.
Our ceremony – Borris House …
We wanted the ceremony to be relaxed and intimate. We choose the ballroom inside Borris House Wedding Venue. It ticked all the boxes it had a country feel with amazing views and a huge open fire at the top of the room. We thought the room was so stunning that less was more and we had very little decorations. My uncle who is a hobby craftsman made some stunning pieces.
He made some tall candle holders for the top of the room, designed a lovely wooden piece with tea lights for the back of the room and the centrepiece for the wall over the fire.
It was so special…
to have the room decorated by a family member and we are able to keep and use all the pieces after the wedding
We chose a humanist ceremony and some acoustic music.
We had family members read some poetry. I walked up the aisle to James Vincent Mc Marrows Higher Love. It was very relaxed and one of our favourite moments of the day.
We chose our wedding photographer because…
When I choose the Borris House Wedding Venue & The Step House Hotel I wanted a wedding photographer who had already worked in both venues. I came across Daniel
DKPHOTO and I stopped looking right away.
His wedding photos were amazing, they told the story of the day and were not too clinical and posed.
He was a dream to deal with throughout the whole booking process.
We only met Daniel on the morning of the wedding. He was so pleasant.
He was an absolute professional from start to finish and we had a ton of fun taking our photos together.
If you are thinking about going with Daniel then don’t think for a second longer and book him now before he books up!!
We chose our venue because…
At the beginning of the process, we knew we wanted a wedding venue with the ceremony to be something a little bit special. We researched and viewed a couple of places but nothing stuck. A friend of mine mentioned the Step House Hotel. We researched it and seen that Borris House Wedding Venue was across the road we had never been to either venue so we booked a viewing appointment with both places thinking we might choose one or the other. In the ended, we loved both areas for different reasons and luckily for us they were both available the same day. We had our ceremony at Borris House Wedding Venue and our reception at the Step House Hotel.
– As a wedding photographer, I can only say that Borris House Wedding Venue is just an amazing backdrop for photos! – Daniel www.dkphoto.ie
Borris House Wedding Venue has an amazing backdrop and a lovely old-style ballroom for the ceremony.
They had cottages on the grounds and both myself and Dave took a cottage each and stayed the night before with our bridal parties and parents. The Step House is on the main street in Borris. From the outside, it would give you the impression it is quite small but inside it is full of surprises. It has a beautiful drinks reception area upstairs with a balcony that has amazing views of the gardens and Blackstairs mountains.
There head chief Alan Foley is amazing and his food is top class. We are both big foodies and once we tried they food there was no way we were not going to have our wedding reception at the Step House Hotel! It did not disappoint on the day. They were amazing and their staff were so accommodating.
Our honeymoon…
We jetted off to South Africa first stop was Cape Town then we rented a car and travelled the Garden Route and finished on a Safari.. On the way home we stopped off in Dubai for 4 nights to relax and recharge before heading back to Ireland.
My favourite part of the wedding day…
The ceremony, the ceremony music and the food :)
My piece of advice for other brides…
Remember it is about getting married and the ceremony and not about the small details. Don’t get wrapped up in the unnecessary details and forget the real reason you are getting married.
Take the time to choose your venue and suppliers. Do your research and don’t worry table plans are not as bad as they say they are :)
