Brooklodge Wedding – Love Winter weddings !
Brooklodge Wedding
“…We just love our wedding photos! Since booking DKPHOTO, we never worried about how they would turn out. We did not think twice after seeing some of Daniel’s work first hand.
The natural shots blew us away. We had been to a couple of weddings before ours where Daniel was the wedding photographer, and never even noticed he was there! It felt the same on our day.He took lots of great photos, and was very unobtrusive wedding photographer in doing so. Looking at our photos now, we cannot believe the shots that were captured and how many there are. Daniel captured the very special moments, and also very funny ones! The photos really brought the day back to life for us. I will continue to recommend Daniel – Wedding photographer in Dublin and Ireland to our family and friends – he is very professional, friendly, efficient, and dresses smart for the day too! Thank you Daniel.

We met…
in school. We went to secondary school together but we only started seeing each other during our first year of college after he decided to kip beside me on the couch following a big night out! To my disappointment, he left college to work as a carpenter in the first year, and every day I’d walk home from college hoping to see his purple civic parked in the drive way. 13 years later I’m still fond of his company!
Our proposal…
He surprised me with a trip to Broome, Western Australia. We certainly didn’t fly there from Ireland; we have been living in Perth for last few years. He arrived home from work and told me to pack a bag. He proposed as the sun was setting on Cable Beach in front of the silhouette of a camel safari. We have always loved a good sunset, and Broome never disappoints. Afterwards, we popped open a bottle of champers over dinner and called our family and friends. Considering that romance was a rare occurrence, he proved me wrong!
Our wedding theme/colours…
I chose grey and white colours for our winter wedding theme. I added splashes of green for a pop of colour, which is quite simple to organise around Christmas time. We used evergreen wreaths, pine cones, ivy, silver baubles and gypsophila to decorate. From the invitations to the table décor, I really enjoyed turning ideas into reality, with a little help from Pinterest!
My wedding dress….
I was searching for unique simplicity, and found my dress by Pronovias in B Couture Bridal Arklow. Each visit to the shop was very pleasant, and the staff were so friendly and patient. They did a fantastic job tailoring the dress to my preference. I highly recommend this boutique.
My hair and make-up…
I chose Vanilla Hair Design in Tullow for our hair. The girls from the salon were very accommodating, and added to the enjoyable atmosphere the morning of. The boys chose Bearboir barbers in Bunclody for a tidy up. Make-up was by the lovely Anita Conroy from The Powder Room Gorey. Anita made myself, the bridesmaids and my mother feel like a millions dollars. Our make-up stayed on well into the early hours.
His suit…
This was a tough day for the boys! Several fitting rooms later, they chose Hennessy’s of Kilkenny for their suits. Of course I made the final decision from Perth via Whatsapp!
What our bridal party wore…
The bridesmaids looked fabulous in After Six dresses by Dessy. I bought them from Wedding World in Dublin. The Dessy brand have a wide variety of styles and colours to choose from.
Our ceremony…
was held in my local church in Bunclody. I wanted a traditional wedding and this was always the place where I imagined walking down the aisle. My grandparents and parents got married here too so it felt quite symbolic. It was very special to have all our loved ones in one room, and because we are living in Australia, it was wonderful to see so many friendly faces for the first time since the last time we were home.
We chose our wedding photographer because…
we were blown away by his originality and creativity. We researched his work after a friend’s recommendation. He was the wedding photographer at their wedding which we attended, and I can’t even remember him being there! Anthony is allergic to having his photo taken, so it was good to find someone who takes lots of natural wedding photos.
We chose our venue because…
Brooklodge Wedding, the grounds are beautiful, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the food is exceptional. The moment we arrived at Brooklodge Wedding Macreddin Village we had a feeling that this was the kind of location we had been imagining for our big day. We spent a night here before the wedding day to soak it all up as well, and will definitely be returning for another visit.
Our menu...
There were many compliments to the chef at Brook Lodge – the Macreddin Dessert Pot in particular. With a choice for delicious beef or fish dishes, we strayed from the ham or turkey feed and saved that for Christmas day.
Our honeymoon…
After spending a lovely Christmas at home with family and friends, we flew to Dubai for an action packed few days, and then travelled on to the paradise island of Mauritius. We ventured away from the sun lounger at times for a spot of hiking, road tripping and parasailing over the turquoise waters.
My favourite part of the day…
I enjoyed every minute from start to finish, it’s hard to choose. The morning at home…the ceremony…the speeches…a full dance floor for the night was certainly a highlight. We also arranged for a traditional two piece band to play in the resident’s bar which was a huge hit.
My piece of advice for other brides…
Write lists, and not just for yourself. I found the Moposa site very useful – it provides you with a sample to-do list and timelines which is a great starting point.Try not to over indulge in too many ideas – simplicity is best! It’s easy to get bogged down in all the planning, but take a step back and remember the reason you’re doing it.Remember to take time out with your new hubby. We spent a few minutes by the fire to enjoy a drink while all our guests were being seated for dinner – a strong one for Anthony to calm the pre-speech nerves!
