The Old Yard Rustic Barn Wedding by DKPHOTO
The Old Yard Rustic Barn Wedding
As a professional wedding photographer, every week I travel all around Ireland photographing my wedding couples on their wedding day. I love to share with you some of the exciting venues that I come across, as so many of my brides and grooms have told me how difficult they found it to find their dream wedding venue.
I just worked at the FIRST ever wedding that was held at The Old Yard which is located in Castledermot in Co. Kildare and it did not disappoint. It was absolutely fantastic and I can tell, that it will be the first wedding of many.
It is a family run business and it will be well known in the area as a beautiful location to drop into for fresh cut flowers, antiques, garden ware and bakery. It was once a derelict 18th Century farmyard and it is fantastic to see these impressive granite wall outbuildings transformed into a location that people can enjoy.
On arrival, I met the owners who are absolutely gorgeous people. After spending some time with them I understood where their motto – “Come as guests. Leave as friends” comes from. Everyone in attendance felt like we were partying at a friend’s house. Their two dogs come and go and roam around the grounds. A warmer and friendlier atmosphere I am yet to find anywhere else!

My bride and groom became husband and wife in a beautiful Church in Kilkenny.
We then travelled to Mullaghreelan Wood which is just a five-minute drive from The Old Yard. I absolutely LOVE having locations like this so close to the Church or the Wedding Reception venue as it allows for stress-free photographs to be taken, before the Bride and Groom start to party with their friends and family.
After the photoshoot, we went back to The Old Yard where the wedding guests were enjoying the drinks reception and there was already a party atmosphere building which is always great to see. The bride and groom were gifted a vintage Alfa Romeo to travel in from the grooms Dad. Beyond cool!
On top of all of that, I was genuinely struck by the simple beauty of this venue. It boasts rustic charm in abundance. The food and dancing was set up in the old barn and the photographs practically took themselves. Everyone was so relaxed and in great spirits. For any bride and groom that are trying to create a chilled vibe on their wedding day then this is a venue that you absolutely have to look at!
The food was amazing! As I weaved around the wedding guests, I could hear people commenting at how impressed they were with the quality of the food and how delicious everything was. A huge part of the wedding day that your guests will always remember!
In the evening, people danced outside the Barn to traditional Irish music and there was a real Irish session created that lasted into the early hours of the morning. There were twinkling fairy lights lit from dusk until dawn which was an amazing place for some romantic photos which came out beautifully.
Wedding couples that are looking for a low key, super relaxed day where the party keeps on going, then please check out the brand-new wedding package at The Old Yard. I highly recommend.
